Many people in the UK remember the “Tell Sid” adverts for the British Gas privatisation in the 90’s, however the SID in this post stands for people who are Senior, Income Supported & Disabled.
Not enough people know about the social tariffs for gas and electricity consumers, so it is up to us all to “tell them”.
In fact it is estimated that over 4.5 million people who should be on a social fuel tariff are not currently claiming what they should be.
This is not a government benefit scheme, this is a scheme set up by the individual providers as part of a deal struck with the UK government. It is not offered automatically by the providers, so people need to apply to their current energy provider for the discounts.
If they are in receipt of child tax credit or working tax credit and their salary is below £14,600 “tell them”
If they receive disability living allowance “tell them , pension credit “tell them , attendance allowance “tell them , disablement pension “tell them, income support “tell them, carers allowance or severe disablement allowance “tell them”
The chances are you know someone who should be claiming, but are not. If any of your friends or family fit the criteria then “tell them” or if they can’t personally speak to the energy provider, take the time to “do it for them”.
