British Gas customers are to face higher utility bills from the 18th of August 2011 and will see their *average home energy bills rise by £190 per annum as the gas price is raised by around 18% and electricity price by around 16%.
For many British gas customers this will be the 2nd price rise in 2011 as many British Gas customers on previous fixed term contracts have also just started or are just about to be charged the previous price increase announced in December 2010.
In any case this means that British Gas customers have seen two price rises in as little as 8 months despite the fact that it’s parent company Centrica has just posted half year profits of around 1.3 Billion Pounds and around £270 million for BG itself.
This new British Gas price hike comes not long after Scottish Power announced it was increasing the cost of of their average customers home energy bills by around £179.00 per year, beginning on August 1st 2011 …
